Memorial services for Harold Drew McCune, 89, of Abernathy, Texas, will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010 in the First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Brian Brownlow, pastor, officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow the memorial service in the fellowship hall of the church. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy.

Mr. McCune died at his home, Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010.

He was born on Sept. 4, 1920, in Tulia, Texas, and married Laura Ann Lutrick on May 25, 1949 in Abernathy. He was a longtime Abernathy resident, graduating from Abernathy High School. He served in the United Stated 8th Air Force as a Crew member of B17 Bomber in England, flying on 25 missions. He also was a member of the American Legion and VFW, the Abernathy Country Club and the First United Methodist Church in Abernathy. In 1987, he retired from SPS after 37 years of service.

Survivors are his wife, Ann McCune of Abernathy; three children, Dreuann Decker and her Mark of Lubbock, Wayne McCune and wife Linda of San Angelo and Lee McCune and wife Jan of Lubbock; four grandchildren, Chad and Mindy Shadden of Abernathy, Brad and McKinsey Shadden, Catlin McCune and Easton McCune, of Lubbock; and four great-grandchildren, Cheyann and Scarlett Shadden of Abernathy and Brody and Maverick Shadden of Lubbock. He was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Ray.

The family suggests memorials to Strip Cemetery, c/o Pauline Stone, 1603 Ave. F, Abernathy, TX 79311; the First United Methodist Church, 704 Ave. D, Abernathy, TX 79311; or a favorite charity.
