Thomas served in the military in CSA CO. D 28TH REG. OF C.S. LA. VOL. He was a shoemaker during the war. He enlisted in the army at Monroe, La., on May 11, 1862, and was discharged February 13, 1863. Thomas and his family walked to Texas about 1869 next to oxen-pulled wagons. The family members had to walk and only the very young could ride.
