He was born Dec. 26, 1927, in Graceville, the son of Ray and Hazel (Schlosser) Murray. He was baptized there and as a child moved to Western Township in Otter Tail County, attending grade school at Otter Tail District 243. He then attended Campbell High School, graduating from there in 1945. He farmed for a short time before entering the U.S. Navy on Feb. 13, 1946. He served with the 103rd NCB at Guam. On Dec. 16, 1947, he was discharged and returned to his parents' farm. On Feb. 19, 1950, he married Ramona Schuetze in Campbell. They made their home on a dairy farm east of Campbell. He retired from farming in 1981, and worked part time for Donn Steenblock until 1995. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ramona, on Jan. 12, 1995. In December 1998, Mr. Murray moved to Fergus Falls, where he had since lived. Mr. Murray served for 19 years as a director at Traverse Electric Co-op, Inc. and for 13 years was on the board of directors for East River. For 20 years he served as chairman of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Campbell, where he had been confirmed on March 29, 1942. For many years he served as the clerk for the Bradford Township Board and the Mid-Am Dairy Board in Fergus Falls.
Survivors include his daughters, Karen (Larry) Kath of rural Campbell, Kay West, and fiancu00E9, Tim Hoogendoorn of Rock Rapids, Iowa; a son, Kevin Murray of Honolulu, Hawaii; 12 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sisters: Louise (Robert) Schillinger of Campbell, Verna Mae Goldal of Mayville, N.D., Joyce (Robert) Church of Tenney and Linda (Steve) Danielson of Campbell; brothers, Elmer (Bev) Murray of Circle Pines, Tom (Waiva) Murray of Battle Lake, Ray (Donna) Murray of Lino Lakes and Marvin Murray of Forest Lake; a brother-in-law, Russell Barth, Ottertail; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a wife, Ramona; sisters, Marjorie Barth, Violet Miller, Ruth Murray; brothers-in-law, Mike Miller and Paul Goldal; and a sister-in-law, Bonnie Murray.
Visitation: Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home
Service: 1 p.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Campbell
