HUGO, Okla. — June Frances Stokes, 81, of Fort Towson, Okla., died Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, in Stillwater, Okla.
Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffee Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Hunt presiding. Interment follows at Fort Towson Cemetery in Fort Towson.
The family receives friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 1, 2010, at Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home.
She was born April 17, 1928, in Durant, Okla., the daughter of Samuel and Vera (Davidson) Bokies. She grew up near Fort Towson and later attended high school in Norman, Okla. She married Jesse D. Stokes Aug. 29, 1947, in Gainesville. She and her husband resided in the Fort Towson area where they owned and operated a dairy farm for several years before moving into town and purchasing the local Texaco Station. Upon retiring from the station, she became an active homemaker and an avid gardener. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and served on the Fort Towson City Council as both council member and mayor. She was active for many years in organizing the annual Fort Towson Homecoming and enjoyed volunteering at the Fort Towson Museum.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J.D.; and infant daughter, Vera Kay Stokes.
She is survived by her twin brother Joe Bokies; brother, Robert Bokies; and sister, Mary Dean Hall, all of Durant, Okla.; two sons, Donald Lee Stokes and wife, Teresa, of Lake Havasu, Ariz., and Ronald D. Stokes and wife, Sandy, of Stillwater, Okla.; two daughters, Nikki N. Robertson and husband, Brent, of Deer Park and Melinda L. Hostetler and husband, Brady, of Billings, Okla.; 12 grandchildren, Leslie Stokes, Shawn Stokes, Serina Stokes, Aimee Henderson, Amber Campbell, Karli Hostetler, Kellan Hostetler, Shannon Parker, Kelly Stokes, Tom Williams, Tim Williams and John DiBenedetto; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Donations may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, the United Methodist Church in Fort Towson, or the Boys Ranch near Paris.
