Charlotte Ruth Atkins, a resident of Floresville, passed away Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, at the age of 72 years, 8 months, and 7 days.
She was born in New Eagle, Pa., on Dec. 29, 1929, to Matreda Beckman and Leonard Simmonds.
She was a 1947 graduate of Atlantic City High School and a 1950 graduate from the Atlantic City Hospital School of Nursing. A registered nurse by occupation, she lived in Germany from 1952 through 1954, serving as a U.S. Army nurse during the Korean War. She left the Army in 1955. On April 27, 1957, she married Robert "Ralph" Atkins, who preceded her in death on April 28, 1984. Mrs. Atkins was a member of the First Baptist Church of Floresville and a member of the Singing Women of South Texas. She had lived in Texas since 1956.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Atkins was preceded in death by sisters Marjorie Counts and Sharon McDonald.
She is survived by sons, John Leonard Atkins (Kim), Robert Roy Atkins, and William Edwin Atkins (Susan); daughter, Marjorie Georg (Robert); grandchildren Luke, Charis, Micah, Chase, Taylor, Braden, Travis, and Curtis; sister, Lenora Burry (Gene); sister-in-law, Laura Svoboda; numerous nieces, nephews.
Visitation was held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8, in the Vinyard Funeral Home in Floresville.
Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. on Monday, in the First Baptist Church, with Brother Mike Clements and Chaplain John Atkins officiating.
Glenn Tatum of the First Baptist Church in Floresville provided the music; special music was provided by Darrell Dundis and Dan Stephens.
Interment followed in the Floresville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Luke Atkins, Micah Atkins, Chase Atkins, Robert Georg, Travis Georg, and Lee Atkins.
Memorials may be made to the Music Ministry of the First Baptist church in Floresville.
