Note – Some online trees have incorrectly identified David and Mary Elizabeth (Crews) Spitler of the tri-county area of Jasper-Effingham-Cumberland Counties, Illinois as the same as the David A. and Margaret Elizabeth (Allbaugh) Spitler who married on 1 Oct 1876 in Carroll County, Indiana. This latter Spitler couple are on the 1880 census in Carroll County, Indiana with daughters Clara and Cora (both age 3, apparently twins) and son Harley (age 2 months, born in Apr). They then moved to Chattanooga, Carroll County, Tennessee where they show up on the 1900 census with sons Harley (age 20) and Guy (age 14). Harley's 1936 Tennessee death certificate identifies his parents as David A. Spitler and Margaret Allbaugh.
