Laura was born February 26, 1916 in Evart, Michigan to George Augustus and Maggie Elsie (McClaughlin) Weller. She was reared and educated in Marion, Michigan attending country schools. Laura married Ira Nauss on December 31, 1934 in Brighton, Michigan, they were later divorced. She later married Arthur Coates on December 31, 1954 in Arkansas City. He preceded her in death on February 1, 1975. Laura and Art were the co-owners and operators of the Minute Café and later Art and Laura's Coffee Break. She was a member of the Hillcrest Bible Baptist Church and was an avid supporter of the Salvation Army.
Survivors include five sisters Irene Richardson of Harrison, Michigan, Rose Bennett of Flint, Michigan, Anna Jean Sergent of Springport, Michigan, Agnes Lucas of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Bess Bazuin of Marion, Michigan; a daughter-in-law Twila Nauss of Tulsa, Oklahoma; four grandchildren Richard Lee and his wife Cheryl Nauss, Tamara and her husband Michael Donahue, Tonya and her husband Shawn Denham all of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Gayle Harris of Atlanta, Georgia; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, two sons Edward and Richard Nauss; a step-son Doug Coates; two brothers Henry and Melvin; and a sister Vena May.
Memorials have been established with the Hillcrest Bible Baptist Church or the Salvation Army. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
