Gertie, as she was fondly called, was the daughter of Alonzo E. and Florilla (Styles) Stoddard. The father was born at Hale's Comers, Lewis County, New York, and the mother in Coburn, Ontario, Canada. After their marriage in the Dominion, they came west to Wisconsin in 1848 and settled in Sheboygan County, taking a homestead in the town of Greenbush, where they remained until 1906. The remainder of their span of life they spent in Downing with their son Eugene, mother dying in May, 1910, and father in September, 1912. Their children, eight in number, were as follows: Albert G., now a doctor at Spanish Fork, Utah; Julietta [Memorial# 134376392], now Mrs. T. P. McIntyre of Olivia, Minn.; Charles B. [Memorial# 122507216]; Clara, who is Mrs. Louis King, Calif.; Cora, wife of Walter Douglass of Los Angeles; Gertrude Irene, who is Mrs. William D. Gertie married William D. Carson in 1892. They had six children, five alive by 1910: Austin James (1894), Dean Morrill (1896), W. Kenneth (1900), Donald Stiles (1903) and Gertrude Florilla (1905). [dates are not always 100% accurate in these recordings] After her husband's death, Gertrude was an assistant librarian at the public library.
