Born in Kentucky, probably Bourbon Co to Alexander Breckenridge and Mary "Polly" Chadd. Married Malinda/Melinda E. Wilson in Nicholas Co, Kentucky Dec. 3, 1829. Migrated to Clinton Co, Indiana by 1840; then to Putnam Co, IN by 1850. On the 1870 census the family is living in Parke Co, Indiana where Washington and Ma(e?)linda died and are buried. They had 5 known children: Sarah born ca 1830-married a James H. Elliott; Alexander born ca 1835-married (2nd?) a Louisa J. nee/uk; James William born Sept 27, 1838-married Hanna(h) Eliza Wright; Cynthia A. born ca 1840-married a John A. Aydelotte (blacksmith); and Malissa who died at age 16.

Alexander Breckenridge (FAG# 24835700) and Jane Preston (FAG# 50096263) were Washington Breckenridge's paternal great- grandparents. Grandfather was their son George Breckenridge (ca 1714 Ireland-ca 1790 VA).

Washington Breckenridge was a member of the Alexander Breckenridge line that produced a number of important political figures both on the National stage and in the formation of the Kentucky government including Attorneys General, a Vice-President, Senators and Congressmen, a prominent woman in the push for women's rights, and a presidential candidate.
