Charles McCausey enlisted as a Private for three years service in Company K of the Fourth Michigan Volunteer Infantry on June 20, 1861, at Adrian, Michigan. He was wounded in action (wounded in right hand) at Fredericksburg, Virginia on December 12, 1862, and was subsequently discharged for disability on April 24, 1863, at Baltimore, Maryland.

Charles died in home on December 16, 1924. the cause of death was listed as cardiac dropsy.

In his military pension application file, Charles lists a daughter by the name of Ida Bishop who was born in Galesburg, Michigan on July 28, 1868.
