Daughter of Charles and Mary Sher Blecha.
Married Dec. 22, 1937 to Arnold Frank Chauza.
Mother of Albert Lee, Mary Irene, Charles Edmund, Luella Blanche, Melvin Dean and Roy Arnold.
Remarried Feb. 14, 1964 to Arthur Gottlieb Korber.
Remarried Jan. 1, 1974 to Raymond Verl Boomgaarn.

She lost her father when she was only 11 years old, she was very devoted to her mother and family. She had helped her father with his work in the fields and blacksmithing, which she dearly loved. Her handwriting was beautiful and she was good in school, but only had the opportunity to graduate from 8th grade from Dist.#66 in Richardson Co. Nebraska.

On December 22, 1937 she was married to Arnold Chauza at the Pawnee County Courthouse by Judge Hurd. They were the parents of six children: Albert, Mary, Charles, Luella, Melvin and Roy. The family lived on the Chauza family farm southwest of DuBois, Nebraska where the children all grew to adulthood. As well as doing the housework and taking care of the family, she helped with the farmwork, well drilling and as bookkeeper at the A.C. Garage in DuBois.

She was baptized at and a member of the DuBois Bible Church, where she was a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher. Her hobbies were many; rock hunting, fishing, shooting and hunting, reading, cooking, traveling, collecting antiques, stamps, coins and Indian artifacts to name a few. She was a very artistic person and enjoyed drawing, painting and designing. In her younger days she loved to listen and dance to polka and waltz music, she was proud of her Czech heritage. She also wrote poetry.

Arnold and Velma were divorced in 1961. She remarried on Feb. 14, 1964 to Arthur Korber and they moved to Neosha, Missouri where they owned and operated a liquor store. Later working at a statuary company until Art got cancer and passed away Dec. 11, 1970. At this time she sold her Missouri property and returned to Nebraska. She met and then married Raymond Boomgaarn on Jan. 1, 1974, they lived on the Boomgaarn farm northwest of Humboldt where Velma helped care for his ailing elderly parents. After the death of Rays father, Herman, in 1975, Bessie, Ray's mother, stayed with them a couple more years before moving to Chicago to live with her daughter. Ray died of cancer on Sept. 25, 1985. She continued to live on the farm until Oct. 31, 1992 when she moved to Humboldt. March of 1995 she bought her home in DuBois where she lived until the family could no longer care for her. She spent the last few months of her life in the Tecumseh and Humboldt Nursing Homes. If she could not be in her own home, she was ready to move to her heavenly home above to once again be with her loved ones who had gone before her.

She was laid to rest in the Blecha Cemetery which was a part of her Grandfather, Albert Blecha's farm, for years known as the Blecha Cemetery, it is now called the Bohemian Cemetery or Czech National for those who no longer wanted to be known as Bohemians. Velma was very proud that this cemetery was from a part of her Blecha Family farm where she had many fond memories of her grandparents and listened to their stories of when they homesteaded and the Indians were still their neighbors. Her spirit will live on in these Bohemian hills near-by, she was a lover of nature and marveled at God's creations.

May you rest in peace Mom, you will be forever loved and missed. You were a good wife, mother and grandmother. You would have been so happy to know how your family has been linked and continues to be joined and grow.
