As a young man he came to Chester and in 1905 he joined the Methodist Church. He was united in marriage to Minnie Sherman on March 10, 1908. To this marriage were born six children: Anthon, Louise, Ruby, Eldon, George and Richard.
After living in Arkansas and Missouri, the family came to Chester in 1915 where Mr. and Mrs. Shinn have remained the past 44 years.
He was ill following an injury 10 months ago and passed away April 13, 1959, at the age of 77 years, 2 months and 10 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Minnie; six children, Anthon H. Shinn, Laird, Colo.; Louise Hayes, Chester; Ruby Hill, Hardy; Eldon and George, Chester; and Richard, Cushing, Okla.; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Frank, of Carthage, Mo.; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held from the Methodist Church, Chester, Friday, April 17, 1959, at two o'clock, Rev. Duane Hutchinson officiating. Singers were G.D. Van Cleef and Mrs. Lawrence Eickman. Mrs. Floyd Haifleigh was the accompanist. Pallbearers were Dick Fraley, Ellis Waring, E.F. Mumm, Ernest Slagle, Jack Brumbaugh and George Fraley. Interment was made in the Chester cemetery (sic), Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.
