Mr. Byars passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2009. Born in Columbia on January 31, 1949, he was the son of Ervin and Beulah Jackson Byars. William celebrated 41 years of marriage with his wife, Mary Kathryn. He enjoyed a full and rewarding life with 35 years of employment with the SC Department of Revenue. He was a graduate of Dreher High School and a lifetime member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church. Often time, "Big" William could be found relaxing under the sun in his back yard after work, playing pool, or golfing. He was a friend to all who he met.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is survived by sons, William Ervin Byars Jr, Thomas Lee Byars; sister, Diana Byars; grandson, Alexander Michael Thomas; stepgrandchildren, Christopher James Smith and Jessica Blackmon Chowdhury; four great-grandchildren.
