Pioneer Resident Laid To Rest
Funeral services for Mrs. Belle Brown, were held at the Methodist church (sic) last Wednesday, conducted by Rev. A.K. Williams. A large number of relatives and friends were in attendance. Interment was made in the Chester cemetery (sic).
Belle Trumbull was born in Fillmore county (sic), Minnesota, October 7th, 1857, and passed to eternal life August 19th, 1934, at the age of 75 years, 10 months and 12 days.
Her mother died when she was 17 months and was raised by an uncle and aunt at Evanston and Waukegan, Illinois.
She was married to Olin L. Brown at Waukegan, June 17th 1879, to which union were born three children, Elbert Lewis of Chester, and Mortimer Jay of Niagara Falls, New York, and Hazel E. Spurling of Seattle, Washington.
She is survived by her three children and by five brothers and a sister, Will Trumbull of San Jose California; Robert T. Trumbull of Cody, Wyoming; Oscar Trumbull and Chester Trumbull of Greybull, Wyoming, Austin Trumbull of Fort Morgan, Colo., and Addie Trumbull of Spokane, Washington. Also by seven grandchildren: Harold Brown, Wilbert Brown and Marion Brown of Chester; Margaret Esther and Roberta Brown of Niagara Falls, New York; and Donna Faye and Ruth Ann Spurling of Seattle, Washington.
Mr. and Mrs. Brown moved to Chester in 1881, about one year after the town was started. They were active in religious work and were identified with the first Union Sunday School. They were Charter members of the Methodist church (sic) when it was organized. She was also a member of the W.C.T.U. and the Eastern Star.
With the exception of ten years at Tecumseh she has spent her entire married life at Chester.
Relatives from a distance that attended the funeral were, Mrs. Minnie Trumbull of Hildreth, and Mortimer Brown of Niagara Falls, New York.
