William and Mary had nine children between 1852 and 1875.

The Stevens family believed strongly in the concept of cash and carry. They didn't trust banks and always kept their money hidden but close at hand. They literally used their bed's mattress as their savings account.

William Stevens, a farmer, at the time of his death was one of the oldest residents of the county. He lived near Mount Olive Church in Pleasant Township, Grant County, Indiana. He died at his home, after being ill for some time.
