Allen LeRoy Rushton, 76, of American Fork passed away Sunday, August 10, 2003 in Provo, Utah. He was born April 14, 1927 in Ruth, Nevada to Jack L. and Vera B. Young Rushton. He married Jane Vigil in September, 1948 and was later sealed in the St. George LDS Temple. Jane passed away in April, 1974. He married Barbara Jean Duke in December, 1976 in the Provo LDS Temple. Barbara passed away in November, 2000.
Allen grew up in Ruth and attended school there. He enlisted in the Navy during WWII and served in the Pacific Theater. He received his B. A. in Education in 1952 and later received a master in Education Administration from BYU. Allen worked as teacher, principal, Assistant Superintendent of Schools in the White Pine County School District in Ely, Nevada. He served as President of the National Education Association and the National Parent Teacher Association.
Allen was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints having served in many capacities during his life including various ward and stake callings. He was a seminary teacher and principal in the Ely Nevada Stake.
Allen was a well-known athletic coach in the Ely area. He was an avid sportsman himself enjoying softball, golf, fishing, hunting, and camping with family and friends. He was a summer tour guide and Ranger at Great Basin National Monument in Baker, Nevada. He retired to Pleasant Grove in 1983 where he was a tax and educational/financial consultant and golfed with his brother Darrel every week including the Tuesday before he passed away.
Survived by his brothers, ten children, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
