VICTIM OF PLANE CRASH IDENTIFIED AS LT. JAMES ALEXANDER, N. CAROLINA - Air Force Pilot Was On Routine Training Flight from Tuskegee, Ala., to Chicago
The body of the army air corps pilot, who met death Tuesday of last week, three miles north of town on the V.K. Roberts farm, when his training plane crashed, was identified by army officials as that of 2nd Lieutenant James W. Alexander of Charlotte, N.C. An investigation has indicated that the plane went into a spin at about 500 feet and nosedived to earth while traveling at full speed, completely demolishing the plane. The body was taken to Geisen's funeral home, Crown Point, where it remained until Saturday, when Lieut. H.D. Ingram , a flying companion of the victim, arrived at the county seat to escort the remains to South Carolina the last to come to Charlotte for interment. A wrecker from the army air field at Rantoul, Ill., came Friday and the wreckage of the plane was loaded on a trailer and taken to Rantoul, where it is supposed the investigation will be continued until some cause for the accident has been determined.
