She was born May 10, 1920, in Douglas, Ariz., to parents who were early Arizona ranchers and settlers. Connie was the last of seven children to be born to her parents and was the only one to have a birth certificate in the state of Arizona; her siblings were born in the territory.
She graduated as a Diploma Nurse in El Paso, Texas, as World War II began and went on to fulfill 40 years in nursing. Her career started in Orlando, Fla., in 1943 during war time. After the war, opportunity brought she and her husband, Joe, to Yuma, Arizona in 1945.
Connie's work began in Yuma at the County Hospital then located on Avenue B and she continued nursing until her retirement from the hospital on the Quechan Nation with the U.S. Health Services. Her specialty was surgery however she ministered care to many of Yuma's residents.
When AWC started its nursing program in the 1960's Connie was asked and graciously accepted the offer to be the keynote speaker to the first graduating class.
Connie supported her husband Joe's efforts in business and development with one of the major accomplishments by building the Cresent Center in 1963 and offering Yuma one of its first major landmarks.
