Mr. J. T. Phillips of Peachland died at his home there on October 2, at the age of 82 years lacking five days, his birthday having been on the 7th of October, 1859. He was a native of Georgia and his father was killed in the civil war. He came to Peachland at an age and spent his life there. He was a member of the Methodist church and a good man and citizen. The funeral was held at the home, conducted by Rev. Mr. Hipps, and burial was in the family cemetery. His first wife was Miss Sula Hasty of Marshville township, and their six
children survive. They are Messrs. Rom Phillips of Fordson, Ind., and John Phillips, of New Jersey, and Mrs. Connie Riggins, wife of Mr. G. L. Riggins of Lane Creek township, Mrs. Lela Thomas of Charlotte, Mrs. Vina Bost of Monroe,
and Mrs. Inez Mullis of Lancaster. His second wife, who was Miss Lettie Dry, survives him.
