EDENTON, N.C., Nov. 19 - Gurney Jesse Byrum, 62, died Sunday at 12:30 p.m. in Chowan Hospital after an illness of three months. He was a farmer and native of Chowan County, having lived most of his life in the Small's Cross Roads Community. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Asabel Byrum; a son Lester G. Byrum of Winston-Salem; a half-brother, Alton Ward of Florida; a sister, Mrs. Janie Boyce of Edenton, and a half-sister, Mrs. Susie Byrum of Norfolk. Funeral services will be held at the Happy Home Church Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. The pastor, the Rev. Gilbert Chappell, will officiate and burial will be in the Happy Home Church Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church an hour before the service.
