KAREN BOEHME PEERY
Karen Boehme Peery, 47, a lifelong resident of Orange, left us to be with Jesus on Sunday, November 25, 2001. Karen was surrounded by her loved ones at the time of her death. Visiting hours will begin 5:00pm on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Services will be 2:00pm on Wednesday, November 28, 2001 at First United Methodist Church in Orange with Reverend Dan Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Orange Forest Lawn Cemetery in West Orange.
Karen attended Orange public schools and graduated from Lutcher Stark High School in 1972. She became a very active community member during her lifetime. She began her career as a bookkeeper for McNamara Insurance Agency before becoming a licensed realtor beginning her real estate career at Century 21 Sid Johnson Realty. Karen has worked as an agent for Jerry Hughes Realty for the past 11 years, where she consistently increased her sales each year to become one of Orange's top agents. She became a well-known and respected figure in the community through the real estate business and civic group activities. Karen was a member of the Texas Association of Realtors and was also a member and past President of the Orange County Board of Realtors. Karen truly loved her work in real estate and the chance it gave her to interact with others and meet new people. Her easy going nature, her kindness and understanding towards others, her outgoing personality, and her great sense of humor no doubt influenced Karen's success in real estate.
Karen was active in Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for many years where she held many offices including President. Each holiday season, Karen worked diligently in the collection, packing, and presenting of gifts to needy families through the Salvation Army. She was also active in the Service League of Orange where she performed many tasks. She served as the co-chairperson of the Toy Coffee benefiting the Salvation Army, volunteered time working in the gift shop at Hermann Memorial Baptist Hospital in Orange, and she was the originator and chairperson of the committee to computerize the filing system for Orange Christian Services. Karen was also the co-chairperson, along with her good friend Debbie Hughes, for the upcoming 2002 Follies to be held in March. Karen was very dedicated to seeing the Follies succeed, and worked on selling program ads and even hosting a Follies meeting in her home two weeks after being released from a six week hospital stay. Throughout Karen's short battle with brain cancer, she kept up her sense of humor and her kind nature by putting the needs of others before herself.
Karen married her husband, Joe Peery, on June 12, 1986. Karen and Joe were best friends and constant companions as well as husband and wife. They were lunch companions during the workweek, played golf together and shared many other mutual interests. The two enjoyed traveling and taking cruises together where they always seemed to make new friends. One of Karen's favorite places to travel was Biloxi, Mississippi. She loved to eat gumbo at her favorite seafood restaurant as well as enjoy the sun, golf, looking at the antebellum homes and other activities there.
Karen took joy in the lives of her children, Misti & Ryan. If you wanted to see her eyes light up, all you had to do was ask her about them. She was proud of their accomplishments. From attending ball games and graduations, hosting sleepovers, or anything else, Karen was involved in their lives. As they got older, one of the special pleasures that they shared was eating crawfish together and her children often teased her about her "dainty" four-finger method of peeling. Karen's only regret was not living long enough to see them married and have grandchildren that she could spoil.
Her brother "Bubba" Larry Boehme Clark preceded Karen in death. She is survived by her husband: Joe Peery of Orange; daughter: Misti Crow of Austin; son: Ryan Crow of Orange; stepson and daughter-in-law: Dean and Amanda Peery of Kingman, Arizona; parents: W.E. "Skeet" and Yvonna Sherrod Boehme of Orange; and her beloved poodle: Lacy. Other survivors include many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews to whom she was close.
Pallbearers will be Steve Lowe, Les Jones, Stacy Mathews, Boyd Parks, Robert Snell, and Rodney Davis.
