WARWICK- Kenneth C. Alden Sr., 66, of 88 Athol Road, died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 14, 2007 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, from injuries from falling off a ladder at his home on Friday.
Born on February 10, 1941 in Gardner, he was a son of Albert and Hazel (Joslyn) Alden Sr., and grew up in Warwick where he attended Warwick Center School. He later graduated from Pioneer Valley Regional School in Northfield.
He was married to Martha (Hubbard) and have enjoyed their life together in Warwick.
Kenneth had worked for the Warwick Highway Department for 43 years and previously had worked as a logger in the Quabbin Reservior and the Wendell Highway Department.
He took great pride in being involved in the Town of Warwick and had served on the Warwick Fire Department, coached and umpired Warwick Little League, helped estabish the Warwick Softball League, served on the Board of Health, and was instrumental in securing the building site for the new Warwick Community School, which he also served on the building committee for.
Kenneth enjoyed playing pitch, flea markets, tag sales, auctions, hunting, but most of all, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also was an avid carpenter and a handy man of many trades who had designed, built, and renovated several homes in Warwick.
He took special interest in many of the building and construction projects in Warwick.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Martha Alden of Warwick; his children, son, Kenneth Alden Jr. Of Warwick, daughter, Linda Perkins, and her husband Vincent, of Warwick, and son, Kevin Alden , and his wife Anita, of Warwick; four grandchildren, Michelle, Jill, Slater, and Stephanie; sisters, Alberta Lauge of Webster, and Evelyn Hurlburt, and her husband Ronnie, of Orange, and Beverly Alden of Turners Falls; brothers, Albert Alden, and his wife Janet, and Richard Alden, all of Warwick, and Charles Alden of Orange
He was predeceased by two brothers, Russell Alden and Robert Alden.
A graveside service will be held on Friday afternoon, July 20, 2007 at 3:00PM in the Warwick Center Cemetery, Route 78 (Orange Road), Warwick.
Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 6-7:30PM at Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Warwick Recreational Committee for sports programs at the Community School, c/o David Lambert, 876 Orange Road, Warwick, MA 01378, or to the Joslin Diabetes Center, One Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215
