Bertha was the daughter of Charles Frederick Brown and Flora Belle Sutton.

She had fifteen siblings: Coral Joshua, Edna Louise, Sarah Isabelle, Edith Harriet, Viola Mary, Charles Henry, George Frederick, Howard Ivan, Bruce Elihu, Willard Velmon, Reo Walter, Florabelle Leona, Coral William, Maude Marion, and Margaret Marie.

Bertha married Joseph Oliver Johnson on March 21, 1942.

They were the parents of four children: Joseph Oliver, Betty Ann, Charles Arvid, and Fredrick Sylvester.

Bertha married Leon Olai Westrum on August 26, 1970.

Bertha Westrum, 75, of Clearbrook, died Sunday, May 26, 1996, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
She was born November 29, 1920, at Loman, Minnesota the daughter of Charles and Flora (Belle) Brown. She was raised in Loman. She graduated from Little Fork High School in 1940. She married Joseph Johnson Sr. on March 21, 1942 at International Falls. Since her marriage she had lived in the Clearbrook and Gonvick area. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior on July 5, 1955. Joseph died on July 19, 1966. She married Olai Westrum on August 26, 1970 at Clearbrook. She was a member of the Elim Lutheran Brethren Church, the Mission Friends Circle and a long-time Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include her husband, Olai Westrum of Clearbrook; children, Joseph Johnson Jr. of Underwood, Minnesota, Betty Ann Malm of Grafton, Wisconsin, Charles A. Johnson of Cylinder, Iowa, and Fredrick S. Johnson of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; step-children, Rachel Peterson of Warren, Helen Olson of Princeton, Minnesota, and Timothy Westrum of Texas; two sisters, Maudie Staples of Little Fork and Margaret Schmidt of International Falls, one brother, Bruce Brown of International Falls; one special buddy, Dylan Holtz of Grafton, Wis., 14 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and step- great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by five, sisters, seven brothers; husband Joseph, and one granddaughter, Lisa Johnson.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 30, at the Elim Lutheran Brethren Church in Clearbrook with Rev. Richard Walvatne officiating. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bagley and one hour before the services at the church. Interment will be at Elim Lutheran Cemetery in Clearbrook under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley
