Daughter of Hymen & Elizabeth Wilkinson.
Graduated from North Platte High School in 1935, and moved to Grant, Nebraska with her family after graduation. She married Thomas Cartwright Brown on September 27, 1938 in Grant. Four children were born to this union: Stanley Wayne (Carolyn), Larry Dean (Karolyn), Marvin Thomas (Erdmut), and Evelyn Ann.
Mildred and Torn moved to California during the war, then moved back to Grant in 1943 where Tom ran a welding shop. In 1952 they moved to Mildred's family farm near Grant where they farmed until 1963. Mildred and Tom joined the Peace Corps in 1967 and served two years in India where Mildred taught sewing to Indian women and helped run an English-speaking school which was named Brown Sewing School to honor her work. They returned and moved to Texas to help their son Stan and his family as he had learned he had rnultiple sclerosis. Mildred did drapery sewing for an interior designer for 20 years in Austin. After Stan's passing in 1999, Tom and Mildred moved to North Platte, Nebraska, to be near more of their family.
Mildred is survived by her three children: Larry, Marvin, and Evelyn, six grandchildren: Jeff, Lori, Mark, Kirsten, Lisa, and Lara; nine great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, one sister, Fern (Norm), Portland, OR, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband, Tom, her parents, son Stan, sisters, Jesse (Chet) and Naomi (Carl) and brother, Cecil. She was known as a loving mother and grandmother and a member of the Methodist Church.
