Walter lost his father at the age of 8 years of age. He lived with his younger brother Fred his Mother, Aunts and Grandmother. His Mother remarried when he was 18. In 1921 at 23 he married his neighbor Mary "Mamie" Leora Hurlburt ae 30. Mary had for may years been a school teacher in Danbury and surrounding towns.(School teachers had to be unmarried ladies). Walter worked in the Hat factories for many years and in later life drove a grocery delivery truck. By accounts Walter enjoyed his family, friends and fishing and was an amiable man.
