Liss, as she was often called by her family, was a spinster who lived with her parents and/or her sister Sarah until their deaths. She kept house with her mother and helped to care for her sister Sarah Jane's children when Sarah was away working as a teacher. Later she probably helped her sister care for her great-nephew Julian after his mother died. There is a photo of Julian about age five flanked by his grandmother Sarah Jane and great aunt Liss.
