Lora B. Speed, age 92, of Ocqueoc, MI, formerly of Howard City, died at Golden Beach Manor on November 1, 2009.

Lora was born on June 28, 1917 in Howard City to Bert and Dora (Lent) Hatfield. On January 9, 1937 Lora Hatfield married Wilford A. Speed in Grand Rapids. They made their home in Howard City and owned and operated a sawmill there for many years. In December of 1995 Lora and Wilford moved to Ocqueoc to live closer to their son.

Lora was an outdoorswoman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Her other hobbies included reading, dancing, and gardening. For many years she enjoyed spending winters in Florida.

Surviving Lora were her son, Bill (Phyllis) Speed of Ocqueoc, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and three great, great grandchildren.

Lora Speed was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years at the time of his death on January 14, 1997, Wilford A. Speed; four brothers, and three sisters.
