At Landersdale, Morgan County, Indiana, a place names in the honor of the sterling pioneer family of which he was a representive, Jackson Landers was born on the 4th of August, 1842 and his death occurred in the city of Chicago, where he had gone for medical treatment and where he succumbed soon after his arrival at St. Luke"s Hospital. his death being the result of acute Uremia. He was the son of William and Delilah (Stone ) Landers.
Jackson Landers was reared to manhood on the old homestead farm in Morgan County, and there is where he learned his lesson's of thrift and industry which served him so well in later years. Following the death of his father he lived for many years with his mother on the old homestead, and about 1870, while still a young man, he came to marrion County, where he eventually became the owner of a large and valuable farm in Center Township. -- a propetry on which he made the best improvement and in possession of which he continues for many years.
As a staunch and admirably fortified advocate of the principles of the Demoratic party. Mr Landers early assumed measurable leadership in the councils of his party in Marion County, and shuch was the character of the man, shuch his partisan loyalty , that he becames marked as a most eligible candidate for offical preferment. In 1876 he was elected to the responsible office off treasurer of Marion County, in which he serverd for two years. At the expiration of his term he refused to become a candidate for re-election.
Mr landers became one of the interested principals in the organization of the United States Encaustic tile works, of which corporation he was elected treasure. He gave much of his time to the promotion of the interest of this concern, now one of the most extensive of it kind in the union, and he continued to serve as treasure untill the death of John C. cooper, on 1906 when he succeded the later in the presidency of the company , an office of which he continued till his death.
Mr lander was united in marriage to Miss Georgiana Knox, who like wise was born and reared in Morgan County. She was summoned to the life eternal in 1876. Concerning the children of this marriage a brief data given; John B, who became a succesful stock - grower in the state of Kansas, Lily is the wife of Winfield Miller, a representive of the Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company and a resident of Indianapolis; William F. treasure of the United States Encaustic Tile Works and in the capital city of his native state is well upholding the prestige of the honored name which he bears; and Arthur died at the age of twenty - two years.
On the 19, of June 1878 , was solemnized the marriage of Mr. Landers to Mrs. Laura (Hayes ) Laycock of Gosport, Indiana and is the daughter of Lewis M. and Melinda (Alexander) Hayes. Mrs Landers has a daughter by her frist marriage , Maude Laycock who is now Mrs. Robert McOuat of Indianapolis. The one child by the second marriage was Eudora, who became the wife of William F.Harbison of Indianapolis.
