She is survived by her loving husband, J. Thomas Heckel, Jr.; her devoted children, David (Stacey) Heckel of Annapolis, MD, Mary (David) Thompson of Indianapolis, IN, Debbie (Bob) Crabtree of New Lennox, IL, Marjorie Heckel of Carmel, IN; four grandchildren, Timothy Thompson, Claire Thompson, Kennett Heckel, and Leland Heckel; her mother, Jane Fargo Baxter of Carmel, IN and her siblings, Arthur (Nancy) Baxter, Sr. of Carmel, IN, Mary (Joe) Lysell of Santa Rosa, CA, and Richard (Julia) Baxter of Carmel, IN.
Elsie was an extraordinarily loving wife, mother and grandmother. For many years of her life, she lived in St. Louis, M* in order for her children to attend The Principia. Her community involvement centered around school activities, sports, academics, hobbies and years of summer camp. Her volunteer commitments included the Indianapolis Children's Museum, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Culver Antiquarian and Historical Society, and she served on the Board of the local Principia Club for many years. She spent her summers at Lake Maxinkuckee in Culver, IN at her fourth-generation family cottage.
