Indianapolis News - Tuesday, April 18, 1961:

Until she was 85, Martha J. Blankenship, 87, was active in her church. She was a member of Parkview Christian Church and served as class president and as officer in various church organizations. Mrs. Blankenship died late Sunday night, April 16, in a nursing home.

Born in Pulaski County, Kentucky, Mrs. Blankenship had lived in the Indianapolis area 50 years. She was the daughter of Taylor Gill, a Civil War veteran.

Her husband, John C. Blankenship, a farmer, died in 1934. After his death, she gave up their Marion County farm and moved into a city apartment. Ten years ago, she went to live with her daughter. F. Elizabeth Blevins, at 1047 Blaine.

Mrs. Blankenship was also a member of the American Legion auxiliary and the World War I Gold Star Mothers. A son, Victor Blankenship, died in service during World War I.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow in the Farley Funeral Home with burial in Crown Hill Cemetery. Survivors, besides the daughter, are a son, Wallace Blankenship, a grandson, and one great-granddaughter.
