Born at Winchester, Mrs. Compton had lived in Indianapolis 40 years and was employed for a time as saleswoman in the chinaware department of Charles Mayer Co. A life member of the Friends Church, she was a member of First Friends Church in Indianapolis, was one of the heads of the children's department and also taught a Sunday school class. Her first husband, Joseph H. Coffin, an executive of the Wadley Co., was killed in an elevator shaft fall in 1935.
Mrs. Compton formerly was active in the Parent-Teacher Association and was a former member of the Business and Professional Women's Club.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow in Hisey & Titus Mortuary. The Rev. Herbert S. Huffman, pastor of the First Friends Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
Survivors are the second husband, C. E. Compton; two sons, Joseph J. and William H. Coffin, Indianapolis; two sisters, Mrs. Olive Thornburg Sebring, Greenville, Ohio, and Mrs. Mabel Pirkey, Chicago, and four grandchildren' a stepson, Dr. Lewis F. Compton, Indianapolis dentist, and two stepgrandchildren.
