Rev Joseph L. Wyatt was born to John and Mary Pauls Wyatt in Cornwall County, England, the youngest of eight boys. One brother died in England, two died in Austrailia, one died in Colorado, two died in Georgia and one was lost.

On May 2, 1854 he sailed from Liverpool, England to the United States, arriving in New York on June 7, 1854. He then migrated to Cherokee County, GA.

He married Mary Catherine Pascoe Wyatt on June 7, 1855. Together they had fourteen (14) children, six died in infancy. They purchased a farm near Ophir Baptist Church. Mary is buried in the Old Hightower Church Cemetery along side some of her children.

He later married Louisa Hendrix Wyatt and together they had seven children, two died as infants.

He was saved at Shiloh Camp Ground and was a Charter Member and first Ordained as a Deacon of Ophir Baptist Church.

He was later licensed to preach in 1885 and Ordained in 1888.
