Mrs. Vera P. Boyd of Gatesville died May 18 in a local nursing home. She was 85.
Services were held May 20 at Scott's Funeral Home with Lloyd Hall officiating. Burial was in Restland Cemetery.
Mrs. Boyd was born June 20, 1907, in Lockhart, the daughter of the late Thomas Edgar and Nellie Petty. She was reared and attended school in Caldwell County, moving with her family to Coryell County in 1918, where she continued her education at Tipton, King, Hemmeline and Plainview.
She married Mr. Claud E. Boyd on January 7, 1931. They made their home in California for a time during the Great Depression, moving to Houston where they resided for many years, and returning to Gatesville in the late 60s or early 70s.
She and her husband moved to Hamilton where they resided at the time of Mr. Boyd's death on August 30, 1984.
Following the death of her husband, Mrs. Boyd returned to Gatesville where she had resided since.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Sutton, and a brother, Jack Petty.
Mrs. Boyd was a member of Eastern Star and East Main Church of Christ.
Survivors include three sisters, Lorena Necessary and Johnnie Kelly, both of Gatesville, and Ruby Schaub of Lampasas; and a brother, Olan Petty of Temple.
Pallbearers were Brent Schaub, Charles Schaub, Sammy Petty, Ronald Ballard and Bill Moore.
