Mrs. Jeff (Mae) Bates of Gatesville died December 29.
She was 98.
Graveside services were held December 31 at Restland Cemetery with Rev. Jay Riley officiating.
Mrs. Bates was born May 3, 1892, in Coryell County, the daughter of the late Jim and Mollie Saylors. She was reared and attended school at Schley.
She married Mr. Jeff Bates and they made their home in Gatesville. He preceded her in death in 1960.
Mrs. Bates was well-noted in the area for her artistic talent in oil painting.
She was a very active member of the First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Bates was also preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs. Christine Adams, in 1980.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Doris Enoch of Austin; one sister, Mrs. Faye Couger of Springdale, Arkansas; five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

"...He was married to Miss Letha Mae Saylors in 1908, and she survives him.
