A 2nd Leutenant in the Civil War, he lived in President Ulysses S. Grant's home in Galena, Illinois in 1868-69.
Summer 1872 or 1873/74 Surveyed the South & West borders of the Wyoming Territory
Sept. 1875 to 1881 or 1883 Resident of Freeport, IL and the owner and editor of the Freeport Journal.
1881 or 1883 Moved to Dubuque, Iowa and entered into the jewelry business in the firm of Richards & Rose. Commander of Hyde Clark Post #78.
Oct. 1890 Moved to Chicago and was identified with the Chicago long distance telephone company. while Grant was in the White House.
