CSU professor emeritus Bruno Klinger dies

Bruno Klinger, 72, died Friday in his home at 705 Country Club Road after an illiness of several months.

Arrangements are pending at the Goodrich Mortuary. The body has been cremated.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bruno Klinger Scholarship Fund in care of the Colorado State University Development Office.

Klinger was born Oct. 19, 1905, in Hanover, Kan. He married Mary F. West April 19, 1952, in Boulder. She survives.

Klinger received bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Nebraska where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

After college, he worked for the Soil Conservation Service and in 1947 he joined the CSU faculty to teach botany.

Following his retirement from CSU in 1971 as a full professor, Kinger served as professor emeritus in botany and as a specialist in poisonus plants for the CSU College of Veterinary Medicine.

He recently returned from Mexico where he conducted field trips and workshops on poisonous plants at several schools of veterinary medicine.

As a lecturer for the National Wildlife Federation, he taught classes in edible wild plants and led nature hikes at the organizaton's annual meetings in Estes Park.

He was a member of the Alonzo Martinez Scholarship Committee and the Student Aid Committee. He also had served as board member, vice president and facilities chairman of the Fort Collins Symphony Society.

Others surviving are a sister, Mrs. Martha Finke of Pasadena, Calif. and brothers, Walter of Pasadena, Ernst of Louisville, Ky. and Martin of Hooper, Ohio.
