Playwright, actor and biographer.

Actor, author and poet, Hassall made his first stage appearance in "The Oxford Blazers" in 1932 and was the understudy for Ivor Novello. Hassall adapted "Quality Street" in a musical and also wrote an opera but was best known in the theatre as a lyricist, writing lyrics for most of Novello's shows. Hassall collapsed and died on a train.
