Frank Pierce Hurst was the son of Jesse Thomas Hurst and Keturah Smith Hurst. He was one of 11 children born to the couple. He married first Charlotte Jane Chafin (1885-1912) in 1905 in Mingo County, WV. Together they had two children: Virginia Clyde Hurst Dean (1906-1984) and William Hurst (born 1912). Charlotte Jane Chafin was the daughter of Francis Marion Chafin and Ester Brewer Chafin. Charlotte Jane Chafin Hurst was the sister to Don Chafin known as the Czar of Logan County, WV. They lived next door to Don Chafin on Main Street in Logan, WV . After Charlotte Jane's death, Frank Hurst married Alma Hackworth, the daughter of Pleasant and Rachel Fetters Hackworth of Lawrence County, Ohio. Frank Hurst and Alma Hackworth married on February 26, 1914 in Lawrence County, Ohio. Frank and Alma Hurst's children were: Alma Louise Hurst (1916-1928) and Frank Pierce Hurt (1917-1986).
Frank Pierce Hurst was the high sheriff of Logan County, West Virginia from 1917 to 1921. On his death certificate it said he owned a car dealership.
