Mrs. Birdie Merritt, wife of Russell Merritt, died at 1 o'clock Monday morning at the family residence, four miles east of Decatur. She was twenty-nine years old last September. Her death was caused by a complication of diseases. She was in the hospital three weeks. She had been confined to her bed for eight weeks. Mrs. Merritt's maiden name was Birdie Bonds. She was born in Mt. Zion township Sept. 14, 1893, and had resided in Macon county all her life. She and Russell Merritt were married Jan. 24, 1912. She is survived by her husband and one daughter, Willmetta, aged three years. One child died four years ago. She also leaves her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Bonds of Mt. Zion, four sisters and three brothers: Mrs. Frank Vest of Decatur, Mrs. Willie J. Veech of Oakley, Miss Mamie Bonds, Miss Grace Bonds, Granver Bonds and Lester Bonds of Mt. Zion and Orville Bonds of Decatur.
