After Jim's death from typhoid fever, Anna returned to Clutier with her 3 small children; and they lived in a house on her parents' farm until her health failed 2 years later. Anna could not handle the death of her husband and the duties of caring for her small children and promptly lost her mind. She lived a normal life at a mental institution in Independence, Iowa. During her lengthy illness the children made their homes with aunts and uncles in the area; Frances with Stephen and Frances Zmolek of Carroll Twp., Elsie with Joseph and Mary Nachazel of Howard Twp., and Leonard with Joseph and Albina Podhajsky of Carroll Twp in Tama Co, Ia.

Mrs. Anna Nechanicky former Tama countian, mother of Mrs. Kenneth Gates of Traer, died Wednesday afternoon at the Independence hospital. She was 67 years old. The funeral service will be held at 10 o'clock Saturday morning in the Immaculate-Conception church at Clutier. A rosary service will be held this Friday at 7:30 p. m. in the Mason Funeral Home at Tama. Surviving with Mrs. Gates is one other daughter, Mrs. Charles Kacer, of Toledo; five grandchildren; one brother, Frank M. Kvidera, of Clutier; and three sisters, Mrs. Joe Nachazel. of Traer; Mrs. Joe Podhajsky, of Clutier, and Mrs. Joe F. Chalupnik, of Chino, California. The decedent's husband, James Nechanicky died about 35 years ago at Odessa, Washington.
