JUDGE H. L. BRIGHT

Popular Police Judge Who Has Been Re-nominated by the Republicans

Henry L. Bright, the Republican nominee for police judge was born in a log house in Johnson county, Kansas. With his parent he moved to Cass county, Missouri and he grew to manhood on the farm. In 1893 he graduated from William Jewell College at Liberty, MO., with the degree A. B.. He was admitted to the Missouri bar in 1894, and in 1895 he graduated from the law department of the University of Michigan. In 1896 he was the Republican candidate in Cass county for the state legislature. In 1897 he came to Carthage and engaged in the practice of law and is winning success in his profession.
Two years ago he was elected police judge of Carthage. During his term of office he has tried more than 500 cases, a number of which were appealed to the circuit court, but he has never been reversed. His decisions have been exceptionally just and impartial and have received the special commendation of members of the bar. He has upheld the majesty of the law with ability and dignity, and his integrity is unimpeachable. He believes that the Decalogue and the Golden Rule should be the standard for men in public life.
He served with Co. A. Second Regiment, Missouri Volunteers during the Spanish-American War. He is a member of the Baptist Church and a Mason, an Odd Fellow and an Elk. He is secretary of the Carthage Commercial club, vice president of the Y. M. C. A. of the state of Missouri, and a member of the Baptist state board of education. He is active in religious and educational work and is deservedly popular. He was elected by a handsome majority two years ago and a similar result at the election on April next seems certain.
