Sarah was a daughter of Aaron Barns and his wife Martha (Eggleston) of Sharon, Litchfield County, Connecticut, and Mentz, Cayuga County, New York. Aaron and Martha brought their seven children, all born in Sharon, to Mentz in 1816. Sarah was mentioned in her father's will as follows:

From Aaron Barn's will dated 1 May 1823:
"I give & bequeath unto my third daughter Sarah Barns, one hundred dollars to be paid to her, two years after my decease... I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife all my household furniture to have and to hold the same during the time of her widowhood, and after her it is my will that the said furniture shall be equally divided between my daughters, Elenor, Julia, Sarah & Sephronia Barns... and that my two youngest daughters may remain with my said wife, until they shall arrive at the age of eighteen years, unless they before marry..."

Sarah died in Dansville, Ingham County, Michigan. By the time of her death, most of her surviving siblings had already or would soon settle in Michigan--mostly in Jackson and Branch counties.

Lots are owned by Hampton Granger, but since he remarried after Sarah death, he is buried by his second wife.
