Travally M. "Mac" Gerhard, 90, of Blairsville, died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital, Latrobe. He was born Nov. 16, 1919, in Blairsville, the son of the late Calvin Sides Gerhard and Harriet Rebecca (McFarland) Gerhard. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Blairsville. Mac was also a member of the Acacia Hall 355 F&AM Blairsville and the Coudersport Consistory, having just received his 50-year pin. He enjoyed bowling up until about two years ago. He also enjoyed reading. Mac owned and operated a dairy farm, had worked as a former school bus driver for the Blairsville-Saltsburg School District, and had retired as a nurse's aide from Torrance State Hospital. He is survived by two daughters, Karen Brown, of Uncasville, Conn., and Deborah Tinsley and husband Randy, Blairsville; seven grandchildren: Lisa Miller, Jeff Gerhard, Mac Brown, Laurie Brown Torelli, Cindy Gerhard Zilke, Joshua Tinsley and Tiffany Tinsley Lutz; 10 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Sarah Elrick, Blairsville, Ruth Himler, of Latrobe, and Jean Budding Chicago, Ill. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace I (Sindorf) Gerhard in 2009, son, Gerald; daughter, Judith Conant; brothers, George S., Donald C. and Hugh; and sisters, Irene Gerhard and Grace Evans. Friends were received at the James F. Ferguson Funeral Home, Blairsville, where a masonic service was held Monday. A funeral service was held Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Terry Shaffer officiating. Interment was in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville.
