Funeral services for Alvena Bond Tuggle, 90, Eudora, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Eudora United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Michael Tomson-DeGreeff officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lawrence.
Mrs. Tuggle died Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born Sept. 5, 1919, in rural Eudora, the daughter of Alvin Ellis Sr. and Lillie May Smith Bond.
Mrs. Tuggle worked at Kansas University Bookstore and at House of Fabrics, where she made an outfit each month that was used in the store display. She also sold Stanley products. She wrote a weekly column, Pinecrest News, for The Eudora News. She taught ceramic lessons.
She was a 53-year member, past president of District Nos. 3 and 5, and past Noble Grand of Minerva Rebekah Lodge No. 146 of Eudora; a member of Eudora United Methodist Church and its Women's Society; and member and past president of Belleview FCE. She also belonged to the Red Hat Club and Belleview 4-H.
She married Kenneth Richard Tuggle on June 19, 1947, in Kansas City, Mo. He died Oct. 19, 1990.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Alvin Ellis Bond Jr.; two sisters, Gladys Marie Bond Blaylock and Leola Murray; a son, Darryl Arlan Steffen; a daughter-in-law, Katherine Florence Steffen; a brother-in-law, Howard Belles; a grandson, Richard Wayne Tuggle; and a great-granddaughter, Bonnie Marie Steffen.
Survivors include four sons, Dudley Ellis Steffen, Gravois Mills, Mo., Raymond Alvin Steffen Sr., Mesa, Ariz., Richard Lee Tuggle and wife Marcia, Alamosa, Colo., and David Bond Tuggle and wife Rhonda, Eudora; two daughters, Sharon Louise Musick and husband LaVerne, Linwood, and Pamela Jane Snively and husband Wilson, Maryville, Mo.; two sisters, Edna Holmes, Eudora, and Carol Belles, Lawrence; a brother-in-law, Millard Murray, Lawrence; 17 grandchildren, Austin and Chad Tuggle, Amy Tuggle Hastings, Amy Vinardi, Stephanie Pederson, Robert and Donald Musick, Rachael Steffen Beebe, and Todd, John, Gary, Raymond Jr., Richard, Timothy, Ronald, Steve, and Mary Steffen; 33 great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Anna and Noah Hastings, Samantha Vinardi, Breeanna and Dane Pederson, Autumn, Tiffany and Dennis Musick, Heather Harner, Amerein Frazee, Noah and Raymond Steffen III, Mackenzie, Kaitlyn and Tanner Beebe, Cole Hutchins, Chelsea and Haley Tuggle, and Nicholas, Samantha, Arlan, Katherine, Kenneth, Anthony, Joshua, Kellie, Felicia, Madison, Karly, Alice Marie, Michael and Wyatt Steffen; and 15 great-great-grandchildren, Salim and Iziah Smith, Aftyn and Trinity Hankins, McKenzie, Pauline and Xander Harner, Charlie and Kevin Frazee, Raymond, Kelsey and Dustin Steffen, and Duncun, Ayden and Rilliey Musick; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
