Clara Z. Edel, 88, of 417 E. Park St. died at 4:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, 1993, at her residence in Du Quoin.
Mrs. Edel was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Du Quoin, Fidelis Sunday School Class, was chairman of the missionary group for 30 years, a member of the Du Quoin Study Club. American Legion Auxiliary, Du Quoin Eastern Star, and Rebecah Lodge of Du Quoin.
She was born Feb. 20, 1904, at Du Quoin, the daughter of James and Addie (Dry) Sawyer. She married Leslie A. Edel on Aug. 1, 1924, at Du Quoin. He passed away in February of 1972.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law. Robert Edel and wife Gaila of Du Quoin: one daughter, Sarah Jean Edel of Colorado Springs. Colo.: five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Ray, Ted, and Jim Sawyer: a sister, Eleanor Anderson; and her parents.
Services were held at Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with the Rev. Bill C. Clark officiating. Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Du Quoin.
