Mrs. Martha Gray, eighty six, a most highly respected resident of Blue Mound, passed away at 10:50 Monday night at the family home. Her death was caused by pneumonia and the infirmities of her advancing age.
Mrs. Gray was born in Cornagilla County, Donegal, Ireland, Oct 21, 1840, came to the United states with her parents, Samuel and Martha Blackburn when she was eleven years old and located near Edwardsville, Ill. In March 1874 she came to a farm northwest of Blue Mound where she lived until 1902 when she came to Blue Mound to make her home.
On Feb 21, 1861 she was united in marriage to Robert A. Gray who had lived in the same county in Ireland where she came from. Mr. Gray preceded her in death in 1918.
To this union were born thirteen children, three of them dead and the following, William A. Gray, Blue Mound, Mrs. William Walley, 883 W.Wood street, Decatur, John K.Gray, Blue Mound, Mrs.C. A. Burdick Assumption, Robert A. Gray, Blue Mound, Mr. Frank W. of Mt. Auburn, Miss Sarah Gray,Blue Mound, James M. Gray of Medford, Morgan Gray Rock Ill and Miss Edna B. Gray Suppery? Rock, Pa.
Mrs. Gray possessed a remarkable sunny disposition which endeared her to a host of friend in the community.
The funeral will be held in the Methodist church in Blue Mound on Wednesday afternoon at 1 oclock and the interment will be in Hall cemetery.
