Mrs. Eldrie Altman Owens age 75 of Blackshear died Friday morning at the Pierce County Nursing Home following an extended illness. She was a native of Brantley County but had lived most of her life in Pierce County. She was preceded in death by her parents Jessie Romey Altman and Bessie Hickox Altman.
Mrs. Owens was a homemaker and a member of New Life Assembly of God.
She is survived by her husband Jasper V. Owens of Blackshear, 8 daughters Carolyn Durrance of Charlotte, N.C., Peggy Smith of Aiken, S.C., Sandra Strickland of Blackshear, Elaine Parshell of Brunswick, Genice Hanks of Charlotte, N.C., Sarah Taylor husband Robbie of Offerman, Mary Vela of Blackshear, and Marie Davis husband Tony of Charlotte, N.C., 3 sons Jerry Owens wife Doris of Blackshear, Johnny Owens wife Teresa of Folkston and Joseph Owens of Blackshear, 23 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, a sister Althea Roberts of Jacksonville, Fl., and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held 11am Monday in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Enon Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 until 8pm at the funeral home.
The family request that the staff and volunteers of the Pierce County Nursing Home serve as Honorary Pallbearers and are asked to be at the chapel by 10:45am.
