MOUND VALLEY—R. Marcell Jones, 79, of Mound Valley passed away at 4:45 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 23, 2002, at the Mercy Hospital in Independence.
She was born on Nov. 19, 1922, to Arthur and Emma (Clark) Thomas of rural Altamont. She lived in the Mound Valley, Altamont and Parsons area all her life. She graduated from Labette County Community High School in 1941.
She married Byron David Jones on May 9, 1943, in rural Altamont. He preceded her in death on March 11, 1998.
She taught school in rural Labette County for two years and was a bookkeeper for 10 years for Parsons Ford Tractor.
She was a member of the Mound Valley Christian Church and the Happy Homemaker's Club.
She loved traveling and reading.
She was admitted to Eagle Estates in Independence on Nov. 5, 2001.
Survivors include: two sons, Ray Jones of rural Altamont and Alan Jones of rural Mound Valley; one foster son, John Duncan of Arlington, Wash.; a daughter, Judy Carroll of rural Independence; a sister, Helen Hunter of rural Parsons; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two infant daughters, one infant grandson and two brothers.
The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Mound Valley Christian Church with the Rev. George Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery of Altamont. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 today at the Bath Funeral Home in Altamont.
