Terry was born in Fort Worth, Texas to Cleave Sweet and Frankie Crockett. Her mom Frankie left Cleave before Terry was born. In 1923, Frank Hastings adopted her and gave her his last name.

She was always the outdoor type. She loved to work in the fields.
During World War 2, she worked for the Santa Fe Railraod. After that, she was the cook at the Seligman cafe.
Terry lived in Seligman, Arizona for 14 years. She married Tom Keville in 1938. He was from Salem, New Mexico. Tom's father was a rancher and Tom had been raised on a ranch.
There was no raod to it, you had to ride a horse and ford the Rio Grande River to go to the house.
Terry and Tom had one daughter, Dixie Carol Keville. They separated before Dixie was born, so Terry was living at home with the family when Dixie was born.
When Dixie was about 8 years old, Terry married Fred Hill. They had one son Dennis.
