Johan Jacob and his brother Caspar, were born in Schlaitdorf, a town near Stuttgast in the Schwartzwald (Black Forest) in Wuerttemberg, Germany, the sons of Johann Caspar and Anna Maria Walther Gayer. They sailed to Philadelphia on 10 Sep 1753, in ship "Richard and Mary". Jacob married Anna Maria Meyer at St. Michael's in Germantown. In addition to the 5 sons and 1 daughter buried at St. Michael's, they also had 3 daughters, Maria Agnes & Anna Maria, named for their grandmothers,,& a 2nd named Catharina.
